A
message from our Minister
Dear
friends,
I
write this reflection during the second week of what has truly been an
astounding Olympic Games.
A new Methodist Church year commencing in September quickly followed by
the seasons, of Harvest of Remembrance of Advent and Christmas. All of
these times and seasons are part of the circle of the Church year, in
each of these events that mark time for us give us all unique opportunities
to open ourselves further to the living presence of God.
Time is also marked in a variety of other ways, the personal events of
our indivual lives, some individuals who live daily with the grief of
bereavement, others for whom this year has seen the celebration of significant
birthdays or milestones of achievement in their life's service and witness.
Creative use of time is apparent in both Church Communities but there
is still much we could build on together.
It has been a real joy over recent months to be part of the stronger links
being forged at Trinity with the Shona community, we need each other,
for we are all part of the one Body of Christ. We hope to have more joint
services in the future.
At Chalkwell there is the very real possibility of developing a small
garden area that could be used by the whole church family, and the start
of our Wednesday Coffee Afternoons.
There has been a growing interest in Godly Play and again this is something
that can be developed further and used creatively in mission.
The Market Stall is effective in the community on many and diverse levels
but we could do with some more volunteers.
The monthly prayer breakfast is now being attended by more people and
I am grateful to all those who have led the prayers, using a variety of
styles.
The young people from Chalkwell with their leaders attended Breakout and
gave us much food for thought with their reflections and the gift to the
Crosses they brought back for us.
Our Advent Course will be a joint venture looking at Stephen Rand's book
'When the time was Right.' More details to follow.
We pray for God's continual blessing and guidance in all that we do.
Rev.
